SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ADMISSIONS TO RD (MPhil/PhD) Programmes
1. Admission to RD Programmes (i.e. MPhil/PhD) shall be made on the basis of marks obtained in TREAT, past academic record and performance in the Group Discussion/ Personal Interview (GD/PI), subject to fulfilling the minimum eligibility condition:

Criteria for JRF/NET/SLET qualified candidates and In-service Teachers

a. The JRF/NET/SLET qualified candidates shall be exempted from TREAT for admission to RD Programmes. For the purpose of calculating composite score, the JRF qualified candidates shall be deemed to have scored 100% marks in the TREAT whereas the NET/SLET qualified candidates shall be deemed to have scored marks equivalent to the marks scored by the topper of that year’s TREAT.

b. Subject to the fulfilment of minimum conditions for admission, a teacher who has been awarded Teacher Research Fellowship by the UGC and is working in any institution of higher education shall be exempted from TREAT and that he/she shall be considered at par with NET/SLET qualified candidates.

c. Subject to the fulfilment of the following conditions, a person already employed in teaching/research profession shall be exempted from the requirement of appearing in TREAT and shall be treated at par with NET/SLET qualified candidates:
  1. He/she must meet the minimum eligibility condition for admission in the Research Degree Programme
  2. He/she must have been working as Lecturer/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor or in an equivalent position on a regular basis for at least 10 (Ten) years in a state or central university/government or government-aided college/institution of national importance/government research institution or laboratory
  3. His/her application for admission in the Research Degree Programme must have been duly forwarded by the present employer with the undertaking that he/she shall be granted leave to pursue the Programme of Study on full-time basis.


2. The cut-off marks for calling applicants for GD/PI shall be 55% of TREAT Score plus Academic Score for general category candidates and 50% for SC/ST/OBC & Persons with Disabilities categories.

3. Subject to the fulfilment of the minimum cut-off marks as prescribed above, candidates equivalent to three times the number of seats in a research area chosen by the applicant shall be called for Group Discussion/Personal Interview (GD/PI) strictly on the basis of merit.

4. Final selection for admission to RD Programme in a research area/discipline shall be made on the basis of merit of the composite score, subject to fulfilment of the minimum cut-off marks that will be 55% of composite score for general /OBC category and 5% relaxation for SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities.
